How the SFPE UK Chapter collects, uses and protects your personal data.
Last updated: June 2026
Who we are
The SFPE UK Chapter (“we”, “us”, “the chapter”) is the United Kingdom chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, incorporated as a Community Interest Company in England. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at ukchapter@sfpe.uk.
What we collect
We collect only the information we need to run the chapter:
- Contact details you give us when you complete an enquiry form or email us (name and email address).
- Your name, email address and affiliation if you ask to join our mailing list.
- Membership and event interest you tell us about.
Event ticketing and payments are handled by our third-party ticketing provider; we do not collect or store card details on this website.
How we use your data
We use your data to respond to enquiries, administer membership, send chapter news and event invitations where you have asked us to, and to organise our events. We rely on your consent for marketing emails and on our legitimate interest in running the chapter for other communications.
Website statistics and cookies
We count visits to this website so we can see which pages are useful. This uses no cookies and stores no personal data: we record the page viewed, the website that linked to it, the visitor's country and device type, and how long the page was open. To count unique visitors we use a code made from anonymised technical details that changes every day, so it can't be used to recognise or follow anyone. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, we don't count your visit at all.
Sharing
We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers who help us operate — for example our email and ticketing providers — and only as needed to deliver those services. Some providers may process data outside the UK under appropriate safeguards.
Retention
We keep your data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law, after which it is deleted. You can ask us to remove you from our mailing list at any time.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact ukchapter@sfpe.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
